Essential Job Duties
North Carolina State University (NC State) and Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU) are initiating research activities on a sponsored collaborative research award in the Fall of 2022. We seek qualified Ph.D. students and postdoctoral candidates to join the research team. The collaboration will conduct fundamental research on the interaction between biocatalysts and the gaseous substrates N2 and CO2, the “universal feedstocks” of life, that play major roles in climate change and the bioeconomy. This five-year collaboration will build a fundamental understanding of electro-chemo-physical phenomena that govern reaction rates at immobilized enzyme interfaces to unlock the biotechnological potential of essential gas molecule conversions. We envision that enhancing biocatalyst interactions with gases by minimizing reaction barriers near immobilized enzyme interfaces will lead to transformative innovations that will help overcome global sustainability challenges.
This position will characterize the structure and dynamics of enzymes immobilized on various supports using X-ray and neutron scattering techniques. Neutron techniques will concentrate on small-angle scattering, spectrometry, and imaging. The post-doctoral research scholar will be integrated into the Biocatalyst Interactions with Gases (BIG) international team
of researchers at NC State and DTU and join a team of neutron scattering scientists, computational scientists and engineers at the neutron research facilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The postdoctoral researcher will be advised by Dr. Flora Meilleur in Structural and Molecular Biochemistry, who holds a joint faculty appointment with ORNL.

The postdoctoral researcher will be advised by Dr. Flora Meilleur in Structural and Molecular Biochemistry, who holds a joint faculty appointment with ORNL.
The postdoc will meet frequently with Dr. Meilleur to discuss best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position will conduct original research on the structural characterization of immobilized proteins, prepare X-ray and neutron beam time proposals, write manuscripts for journal publication, and will participate in research meetings both on NC State and ORNL campuses and with collaborators.
